HGP Initial

This course covers all standards set forth by the State of Maryland for the concealed carry permit. The initial certification includes 16 hours of combined classroom and range training, including a qualification course at the firing range. At the end of this course if the student passes the qualification course, they will receive the documentation necessary for their application to the Maryland State Police. 

HGP Renewal

This course covers all standards set forth by the Maryland State Police for renewing one's Maryland Wear and Carry permit. This course includes 8 hours of combined classroom and range training. This will include a qualification course at the firing range. Once qualified, the student will receive all necessary paperwork to include in their application to the MD State Police. 

1. At least 21 years of age.
2. Has not been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year has been imposed; or convicted of a criminal offense for which you could have been sentenced to more than 2 years incarceration.
3. Has not been convicted of a crime involving the possession, use, or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance;
4. Is not presently an alcoholic, addict, or habitual user of a controlled dangerous substance unless under legitimate medical direction;
5. Based on an investigation, has not exhibited a propensity for violence or instability that may reasonably render the person’s possession of a handgun a danger to the person or others;
6. As of October 1, 2013, has successfully completed the Maryland State Police approved firearms training course within 2 years prior to submitting the original or renewal application. 

• All classroom materials will be provided.
• Training firearms, holsters, and other hands-on training materials.
• Students will be provided with appropriate tools to use during the range portion of the class.
• Assistance with HGP Application.
• Meals are provided for any class session over 8 hours.
• Drinks and snacks.

• Students are welcome to bring their firearms for the live-fire portion of this course. 
  • Please bring at least 150 rounds of ammunition and two mags capable of holding 5 rounds each.
  • Please ensure that the firearm is unloaded and made into a safe condition prior to coming to class.
• Students are welcome to bring their own hearing protection and eye protection.
• Students should bring writing utinsles and a notebook or paper for notes, if they would like.

We understand everyone has more important things to do daily, so we offer a few different options for attending our classes.

Initial 16-hour Course

1. Two sessions broken into 8-hour blocks.
2. Four sessions are broken into 4-hour blocks. (3 evenings for classroom instruction, one day for range instruction)

Renewal 8-hour Course

1. One session of 8 hours
2. Two sessions are broken into 4 hours each. 

1. It allows you to carry a firearm legally in 30+ states.
2. The Maryland Wear and Carry training meets the training requirements set by several other states. You will not need to complete additional training to apply for your VA, FL, and PA permits.  
3. Meets training requirements for applicants to the Berwyn Rod and Gun Club.
